Getrag speedo drive
« on: December 09, 2020, 06:04:04 »
Hi Guys,
It seems from what I have found in the archives,  a 19% reduction gearbox is the ball park reduction required between the Getrag 265/6 and the Pagoda speedo. Also reverse the anti clock wise output to clock wise input to the speedo.
I have a 3.92 rear end and 185/80/14 tyres.
Much appreciated.

Hi Chris,

I have  Getrag 265 box but I still have not fitted it.

I found a company called speedy cable in Wales who offer a custom cable for this application.

Maybe they can help you to confirm?

TKS Peter,
I%u2019ll check with them.
I modified the Pagoda cable in less than a minute.
However, the big problem seems to be the Getrag output drive is anti clock wise and the MB speedo requires a clock wise input.
I am very surprised not to have picked it up during my research.

I don't believe that's true. I've fitted Getrag boxes with mechanical speedo drives before and the Speedy Cables cable and speedo calibration was all that was needed.

Chris - the chap at W113.EU who also sells Getrag conversion kits never mentions anything about the speedo drive direction.

I would check your source for this.

Thanks Stick and Peter,
I%u2019ll have another look in the morning and report back.
Stick, is the speedo calibration achieved by a small gearbox or an adjustment on/in the instrument.
Much appreciated.

if you do it at the speedometer you will still have the error in the odometer.  The odometer is simply a gear drive off the speedometer cable where the speedometer is a magnetic drive so they are independent of one another.  you can adjust how the needle of the speedometer reacts to the spinning magnet but you can't adjust how the gears of the odometer react.

Tks Shvegel,
Yes, correct. However I found the speedo not far out. If I remember correctly it was under reading 6 to 8 kph and I am happy to live with it as is.
