Wooden handled screwdriver

Hi folks

Has anyone have, to know of a MB original wooden handled screwdriver with the different screwdriver heads?
This is for my 230sl, which from reading the tech manual, should have 12 ‘flutes’?

Katie, here is a photo of my correct  set for my 65 230 SL,---PO---told me was stock.
it has the wooden handle old style,  and i know the later  280s have a plastic  handle i think
have forgotten, but in between these  2 there may have been another design with wood but  same shape
as the later plastic handle.
Others with more knowlege than me will let us know.

Katie - curious as to where you found the reference to 12 flutes on the wooden screwdriver handle.

My understanding is that they had 7 flutes and a chrome collar.

Yes, you are correct, 7 flutes!

I believe the the one without flutes is for earlier cars 190?

They are rare but the wooden handle looks relatively easy to reproduce, and the interchangeable bits are probably similar if not identical to those from the later and more common plastic-handled screwdrivers. Possibly Authentic Classics already makes a repro.

They happen by on ebay. You just need to set a search. I was looking for one for 190SL, got it this way.

Thank you for the explanation. I was looking at the ‘connection’ between the wooden handle/grip and the metal blade, blind to the wooden part itself. It’s called mental block, and I really hate it (in myself foremost). No need to apologize! I’ve always been fascinated by the creativity of the English language (French used to be a little bit stultified, now more lively thanks to youngsters and imports), flute is a lovely word, groove maybe more ‘appropriate’ but definitely more pedestrian 👍

On the other hand you could argue that's efficient. It allows the vocabulary to be compacted, because the meaning can be extracted from the context of the sentence (I admit I'm not totally convinced by that argument).
I guess in German you instead have a LOT of words, each more or less unambiguous. That also seems reasonable.
The things I dislike about English are the ambiguous pronunciations, the arcane tense changes, and all the 'special rules'. Must make it so frustrating to learn.

However, having watched a programme many years ago, about language, it appears that English constantly morphs, taking in new words from different cultures. Indeed there are many French words in the English language (maybe due to William the Conqueror?) and some German, plus Nordic etc! This is why, the programme explained, why English remains the ‘international’ language. Not just purely due to our history of invading countries in the years past.

Who would have thought that my simple request to acquire a wooden handled MB screwdriver would result in a discussion about language and what appears to be comparisons on whose language is better than others! After all, how can an inanimate object be male or female, or why have separate words when one can just push them all together to form one word? 😁

I think we should just value the loveliness of diversity across our fabulous planet, and our individual uniqueness
