certainly the front fender appears to be the preferred placement today, but this brochure clearly shows that rear antennas were being installed as well, at least for early pagodas.
my guess is that US cars had more uniformity in this area than euro cars, particularly on earlier pagodas.
i have seen the occasional pagoda with rear antenna. i'm sure the brooklands book shows one or two in it.
this would be a good question for achim or ed ebel from becker.
