Is there any reason that this article can't/shouldn't be added to our Technical Articles section?

I too would love to be copied on the article.  The white perforated leather is discoloring around the edges of the top and turning yellow; I imagine it is just the glue showing its age.  Is there an easy way to bring it back to white, or since the top is 36+years old, is it time to renew it all?

Dave,

Don't remove your old headliner if it's not torn. You can re-dye it quite nicely.

Go to leatherique.com and ask them for advice about their water-based dyes. Tell them about your project and they'll know the right shade of white. (There are other suppliers for good dye too, of course. It's not hard to come by out there.)

I would assume that we would at least need his written permission to post his article in a public place.  It might even be copyrighted?

Anybody have a copy of his article.   My car and hard top should be ready in the next several weeks and I had to remove the headliner to remove the top chrome (It needed to be replaced anyway).

I've removed all chrome and the headliner and want to get it all back together, thanks.

Everyone,
just email Gernold through his web site [http://www.sltechw113.com/]
and more than likely he'll mail you a copy. At least that's how I obtained my copy.

I think we need Gernolds consent and add this article to the next Pagoda World.

Here's what someone has to do to reprint the article:

Michael:

Reprinting the article will require a couple of simple things:

1) that you obtain the permission of Gernold Nisius and the photographer or artist (we had only one-time rights).

2) that you send us a copy of the current issue of Pagoda World now plus a copy of the issue with the reprinted article,

3) that with the article, the magazine should print the following credit prominently:

"This article is reprinted with permission from The Star, the national magazine of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America. To join MBCA, see www.mbca.org or call 800/637-2360."

Gernold has revised the article since it appeared in the Star.  To my knowledge, the new version is still available only in German.  If the new version were translated into English, would permission of the Star still be required, as it would no longer be strictly a reprint?  (I don't want to offend anyone or muddy the waters, but do think the point is worth raising).

If the article was revised, it isn't the same.  The Star had a one-time permission, and thus if it isn't the same thing being reproduced, then it isn't from The Star, and Pagoda World can go right to Gernold.

The membership is a good plug.  Some magazines and clubs would not give permission at all without payment of some serious coin...

Once Pagoda World 8 is done this month, I will send a copy of PW7 and PW8 to Gernold and ask him if he would be willing to translate the latest German article to English and allow us to print it.

Is it possible to post the revised German article? Some of our members understand the language and I think Achim speaks and writes the German and English language fluently

Hey Rodd, that would be great. We'll eagerly await the result. I'd be surprised if Gernold doesn't allow us to do that. Thanks,    -JP-
