Thrust/Release/Throw Out Bearing

Hi All,

I’ve split my engine and gearbox (66 230SL 4SP) and I’m trying to source a Thrust Bearing for a reasonable price. If they’re available, they are around the $240US/$310AUD + shipping, ouch.

The OE Number is 111 250 01 15, but upon sniffing around in the Sachs catalog it gives me their number of 05 3151 000 206 which as per the screenshot below shows the OE numbers that look to fit a 123.

Can anyone please help me with an aftermarket number or an OE dealer that will ship to Australia that I can use that will save me some $$$

Thanks for your response.

It appears to supersede to the later thrust bearing for the 280.

Given the clutch pressure plate is different, I suspect it won’t fit.

Guess I’ll have to dig deeper in to my pockets.

yes indeed this is a problem, they deliver in Europe only, but I saw on ebay.com.au a Polish dealer who delivers Luk clutches to Australia. Maybe you can ask him for this LuK kit (623 1221 00). There is an another Australian dealer with LuK clutches (Sparesbox).
I read in the workshop manual that there has been some changes for
- pressure plate, 2 different: A0002502904 --> A0002506804
- clutch plate, 3 different: A0042501703 --> A0002507203 --> A0012501103 and
- release bearing, 1 different: A1272540120 --> A0009814325; release bearing with body: A1112500115
in early phase of 230SL. From 1965 they had all the new version.

This early thrust bearing arrangement pictured, looks like the same versions used on earlier MB  models like the 190SL. If this is the case, the bearing assemblies are interchangeable as long as the carrier sleeve is change also. At least two other versions were used in later W113 cars and are not interchangeable since the carrier sleeve is built into the thrust bearings and are different sizes.

I’m looking for the correct clutch for my 250sl too. I’ve been told from mb classic center in California that my car need this release bearing with the following code :1112500115. It seems very difficult if not impossible to find in the normal mb shops like sls and mb classic.de. Do you have some ideas about where to find ? They told me also that the correct disc is 010250260364 but I assume that the clutch disc is the same for all 3 w113 models right ? The main differences between clutches of the 230-250and 280 is the different pressure plate for the 280 and different release bearing right ?

I’ve been told this codes from the classic center but my opinion is to remove  the gearbox and inspect the item that is mounted on the car and go from there . One thing that I never understand , all w113 cars do they have the same clutch disc or not ? I’ve seen for sale in Different website the disc made from Sachs and is written that fits all w113 , is it true ?
Considering that the pressure plate for the 230 and 250 is nla, the clutch items that you can replace in the 230 and 250 are only disc, release bearing and pilot bearing right ?

This may not apply but could be useful to know. On my 230SL with a 250SE engine, I'm using a 280SL pressure plate but had to use the earlier 230SL release bearing because that was all that would work on my ZF 5 speed. It's been in the car for at least 15 years and still works OK. I'm using the clutch set up from the 230SL so it has a heavier feel to the pedal than what you would normally expect due to the 280SL pressure plate which exerts more pressure than the 230 variant.

I bought my car with the 250SE engine already installed but was surprised to find that the flywheel had not been changed. Believing this set up to be alright to use I soon found that the clutch would slip if pushed hard in higher gears. After changing to a 280SE flywheel and pressure plate it has been flawless.

So, you can mix and match parts in certain cases.

The clutch disc is always the same between all models  right ?
Are there any differences between the flywheels for 230-250and 280?
Replacing a clutch for a 280sl is quite easy because all parts are still available , for 230 and 250 you need to remove your parts first and go from there what can be replaced and what is nla like the clutch pressure plate . This make me nervous .
Usually when a clutch slips, it depends from the worn out surface of the disc or can be caused by the pressure plate too?
