Help identify this connector

Hi I would be most grateful if someone could identify this connector and where it should be routed that goes from my foot dimmer/high beam switch on my 67 230.Thanks in advance!

If it is an automatic, it might go back through the firewall then connect to the automatic transmission kick-down switch. ?

It's a 4sp manual, so I'm wondering if it's the connection for the reverse light switch on the gearbox. Thoughts??

Temporarily connect the two contacts of the plug together and turn on the ignition. If the reverse lights come on, you got it!

More likely to be the brake light switch.

Yes it is the reverse light switch connector. Goes to the transmission reverse selenoid in the route market on the first post to this thread.  Check that cable Colours are grey/yellow one of them and the other as far as I remember was black/red/yellow.

Dear mr. benz

Is not the brake light connector since it has a rubber grommet on it, and therefore is a signal for something outside the cabin, and as the car is a manual transmission, not automatic there is no doubt that is for the reverse lights switch

Many thanks for the answers, I will connect and check this tomorrow on the Pagoda.
Makes perfect sense as the 2 things not working right now are reversing lights and wipers. This looks to solve one of those issues.

What is your vin number for the 280SL?
Should be 113044 with either 10 or 12?
Which one is yours?
Your car is a manual so it should be a 10, automatics are 12.
Might be a leftover from a conversion from automatic to manual as this wire plug could be the kickdown switch.
I say this, because the rubber grommet is backwards, meaning the plug is outside the car, not inside.
Other way to verify is by checking the colors of the wires.
