Hub caps
« on: May 17, 2021, 17:01:20 »
I have two sets of the later style one piece hub caps. On one set they have 4 of the clips on the other they have 3.
Does anybody know what they originally came with ?

Parts list says there are 16 on a car.

PN A 123 401 01 28, I suggest to buy them from MB (about $2.50 per piece) as they will be a sure fit from there.

Here in the USA I have found used ones readily available from junk yards handling old wheel covers.  The clips are the same for all of the cars of the period.

Oddly, that is not quite correct.  I believe there is one part number for the early full wheel covers that are chrome plated, a different part number for the later full wheel covers that are stainless steel, and a 3rd part number for the full wheel cover that is stainless steel when mounted on aluminum (that look like steel) wheels from a W123 (US market only).

For 113044

I see no clips for alu wheels nor any covers on the parts list.

I see one part number for hubcap, as of chassis 000045 (A 115 401 03 24).
I see one part number for clip, as of chassis 000045, as stated below.

I see one part number for trim ring, up to chassis 000044 (A 113 401 04 45). I think this is the dog bowl set up.
I see one part number for wheel hub trim, up to chassis 000044 (A 186 401 00 25). I think this is the dog bowl.
I see one part number for the spring, up to chassis 000044 (A 113 401 06 28).

For the dog bowl arrangement there were different part numbers (all three elements) for 113042 and early 113 043, then late 113043 were the same as 113044. I was looking for that before - I did not find another PN for steel/chromed vs. stainless steel hubcaps and no other PN for clips.

Where are you finding your list?
The part number for full wheel covers on aluminum wheels that look like steel wheels is A 123 400 00 27.
Again, these are only applicable for US market on cars with aluminum wheels from a W123.

Hey scoot - any hints on where to find the A 123 400 00 27 clips for the alloy wheels?   I found some for $8.50 a piece which seems steep when I would be getting 16 of them.

Thanks,

Ian

All you can do is shop the price with on-line dealers.  They used to be cheap, now I think they got expensive.  I have some new and used ones but I'm saving them for my own wheels.

Thanks,

They are available at the dealers, 72hours delivery in my geography. They cost ca $5 plus VAT (23%) for final consumer, again, in my geography. Be careful with cheaper, other than good used ones, they may be less expansive, but not fit.

Yes, your clip with its PN is for covers for alu wheels, for Canada, US and Japan. Only for W123, nowhere else.

The clip PN for Pagoda is, again, A 123 401 01 28, for regular wheel trim on regular steel rim for 113044 as of chassis 000045. 123 in the part number means only it might have been developed for 123 series or modified for 123 series. In some modern cars you have parts with 113 in the beginning.

I have my lists from the EPC - Electronic Parts Catalogue from Daimler. But I think Nemiga or alike may work as well.
