CO2 air-fuel for 280 sl
« on: June 05, 2021, 16:22:15 »
Hi to all, hope everybody is ok,

Does anyone knows the value of Co2 for a European 280 SL ? I thing it is not good, or the car is working only in 5 cylinders.

I have to calibrate mine and I don’t know if the machine does that automatically with the right values.

Regards

Don't know if this is of any help. But here is a picture of the remnants of the original valve cover sticker on my 1971 German 280SL and  a picture of a replica, our member alpinaltd came up with.

I think 2,5-3% CO2 as suggested on the factory sticker would be a highly optimistic figures. People seem to get 4-5% CO2 in practice with even higher figures being also common. Unfortunately these cars love to run rich.

I think 2-3% of co2 is very optimistic value . Maybe with perfect tuned injection pump , perfect compression and no issues in the ignition sistem .

Mine is much higher , is around 9%. But is running great . Rich mixture but I’m scared to mess up with the injection sistem

I would keep an eye on oil level and oil smell and change oil frequently.

That’s what I regularly do . Oil change every 6 months regardless of how my km I do each year . The oil has some gas smell but this is quite common in our cars .
