WTB old damaged Mercedes Wiring harnesses
« on: June 22, 2021, 11:39:21 »
Dear friends

Looking for OLD, wiring harnesses for Mercedes cars with the following chassis designations

1. W109 or W108
2. W111 coupes or sedans
3. W116 certain versions
4. Of course also W113 but of these particular one I have many in stock already refurbished.

The condition of the used harnesses must be fair, I mean with not so many chunk ends, since takes time to repair chopped harnesses.  It is better a deteriorated harness than a chopped one.

Shipping to Clermont Florida. There I receive the harnesses and later ship them to Venezuela.

Best regards

I have a w113 parts car. It has the old harness still in it. I would like to know how can I remove it and how much would it cost to have it refurbished so I can install it in my operational w113.
The the harness in the good w113 is 57 years old

Leonardo, since you know these quite well--wouldn't it be easier to just start with new wire and make new harnesses rather than try to use 50++ year old wire sets? I do know it's only a hobby business for you...

RI Wiring Service (whom I'm sure you are familiar with) http://www.riwire.com sells all or at least most of the Pagoda and other harnesses. On the Pagodas, it's quite clearly written that all connector plugs and terminals from the OLD harness must be reused.. I think this provides a restorer with a dilemma. Either an old harness rebuilt, or a new harness without connectors. Each has its challenges. Having worked in electronics for many years early on in my career, finding and creating (or even re-using) old connectors is not a trivial task. You need a variety of different tools AND you need to know how to use them. In the case of these harnesses I'd imagine finding some of the connectors and pins isn't easy either...and if you are removing pins and wires from an old connector and installing on a new, no matter how careful you always run the risk of getting one in the wrong place.

Dear Michael

I know the people at Rhode Island and have bought from them some colored cables with color stripes.

Normally it is relatively easily to source cables with one base color and a combination stripe.

But there are some others with three color stripes that are hard to find.

As you mention this is a hobby/business so the work volume is not overwhelming.

In the future when I get older I may purchase a machine to produce my cable color coding system instead of depending on others.

On the other hand at the moment each project is unique, and that is specially what differentiates my services from other providers.  I am frequently asked to perform a lot of customization and retrofiting. Therefore the harnesses can not be produced in anticipation in a serial process.

And finally not everything is damaged in an old 50 year old harness.  That is why I reuse, most of the connectors, pins, and of course change the lines I know fail the most, or those which I want to increase its capacity to handle a larger load.

Connectors housing when damaged are replaced for new reproduction ones.

And finally my dear Michael

Reusing, soldering and getting all pins in the right place always checking against wiring diagrams and diverse manuals is part of the fun part for me.

This work keeps your mind totally focussed on that.

It is a great neurons gym.

I like it a lot

I can only imagine the focus needed to do this completely accurately! One mistake and it’s a real problem… Particularly if you sell the harness and somebody has gone through the effort to install it!

You are totally right.

Focus focus and more focus.

Once I bought from someone in Europe a new reproduction wiring harness that had no terminals and connectors.  That was one of the hardest jobs, since as it didn’t comply fully with diagram was very difficult to find out were the mistake was.

It took me time but finally found two cables that were routed to wrong places and that was the reaosn of not behaving like it should.

And all that diagnostic was done only by accomplishing was is called in programing “ a cold run” with a multimeter, without installing the harness on a car.

Well that is part of the fun, at least for me.

And that harness ended on the hands of a happy customer in Australia, nowadays.
