Details for our Niagara Falls Road Trip

Preliminary Details are attached here in a PDF format file. This Preliminary PDF File will provide the Members that have expressed interest to participate in this Road Trip on  September 18th and 19th 2021 for the Niagara Falls Trip. The file will provide you with different meeting points along the way, let me know where you plan to join the group so that we don’t wait for you unnecessarily.  See the PDF file attached here with this post.

The spreadsheet that lists participants for both the Niagara Falls Road Trip and the earlier August Road Trip to the Toronto Event, has now been revised (listing individuals that have confirmed attendance for the Niagara Falls Trip) to issue 12 is attached here with this post for your information. I have deleted individuals that have not responded to me after posting several PM reminders. I will be happy to add anyone that was deleted from the spreadsheet back on to it if I receive a PM to do so. Right now I have 10 confirmations for the Niagara Falls Trip and 9 confirmations for the Toronto Event.

I require from each participant a PM with the following Information:-

1 - Your e-mail address.

I need your e-mail so that I may forward to you the attached PDF file that will be revised to issue 02 and will contain addresses of all the “Meeting Locations” as well as times when cars are expected to arrive and when we plan to leave to the next meeting location. This will give everyone the option to join at any for the meeting points listed.

2 - Your cell phone number.

I need your cell phone number so that I may then provide you and others on our trip when we meet with a list of the cell numbers in case someone gets lost, needs help, or needs to contact us during the road trip for whatever reason.

3 - Let me know at what meeting location you plan to join us so that we will not have to wait unnecessarily for your arrival.

Please take a minute and provide me with items 1 to 3 so that I may finalize the attached PDF file with the final details and forward the final PDF file revision 02 to you.

I am posting this here in the EVENT section of the forum as well as a PM to each participating Member for the Niagara Falls Trip in the hope you see it and get back to me.

ADDITIONAL NOTE

In my PDF file I mentioned a recommendation to make reservations for the Skyline Tower Restaurant for September 18 if you are traveling with your significant other or wish to eat alone. (The Tower Restaurant is closed at the moment, however, I expect for September this may change) I recommend checking early next month to see if reservations can be made. So I Plan to check quite often when they take reservations for September 18, I plan to take a 7:30 pm or  8:00 pm reservation for dinner. Access to the Observation Deck is free if you have dinner at the restaurant, The color display once it gets dark of the falls should be spectacular,

[Frontseat Driving]

Hi gang, I'm Jason of Frontseat Driving, and I'm am putting together the Niagara Cruise.

I would appreciate some input in order to give you the best experience I can within the constraints of time and distances covered.

Lets cover the big one right away.  Gravel.  Gravel is almost a certainty at some point in rural travel.  Regardless of how extensive route planning is, often gravel sneaks in simply because of road maintenance.  However in some cases the road less traveled is also the most beautiful, and often gravel. 

To that end I remind folks that gravel won't damage your paint if you travel at slower rates of travel, and you don't follow other vehicles too closely.

That said.  Could I get some feedback as to how you generally react to gravel roads?

A - Yikes, hit the brakes and do a U Turn.

B - Whoa, slow down and enjoy the landscape.

C - Yeehaa I'm on the Monte Carlo Rally.

The second item of interest involves navigation.  I have many options available however your comfort levels with these tools will help me decide how to direct my efforts.  Could you all confirm the following for me? 

Do you use Google Maps?  Yes or No.

Do you download apps on your cell phone or tablet?  Yes or No.

Do you have a GPS in the car you will be driving at the event?  Yes or No.

I like to avoid Gravel Roads whenever I can, however, if I do encounter it (due to road maintenance), I certainly slow down as much as I can.

When you see these cities for the first time, it is surprising how different they are from each other. The city on the Canadian side looks like Las Vegas but in Canada. There are huge hotel-casino towers, glittering neon signs, and a sense of continuous celebration. You can see it all even across the river.
On the other hand, the American side leaves an impression of dullness. It is an ordinary gray town, typical for the poor northern part of New York State. But that wasn't the rest of our trip; in Europe, where we were from, a tour of Germany awaited us. teasad, that is probably because on the Canadian side the Niagara Parks Commission controls all the land along the Niagara River between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.  They were established in 1885 and initially only controlled the area around the falls, known as Queen Victoria Park.  Since that time they have taken control of the entire River acreage, over 1325 hectares.  While they run golf courses, restaurants, gift shops and a host of other attractions they have kept the entire area as a park for tourists with various gardens and walking and bicycle trails.  They control all development.  They even have their own police force.  The extensive park and the falls brought all the hotels and other attractions that you see now.

Hi Marcus, your story brought back memories (when you mentioned >They even have their own police force."), one I will never ever forget. In my early 20's I think it was 1959 or 1960 having just purchased a 1953 Oldmobile, I was on my first road trip to New York City. The car was the first one I purchased in my life. I stopped at the Falls to have lunch. I parked that Oldsmobile in the same area where I parked my Pagoda in 2013 (see photo).

On the photo you see the falls river area in the background and the well manuqured green grass and flowers. Anyway, back to my former 1953 Oldsmobile and 1959/1960. I took my portable Habatchi Barbeque and made myself comfortable on the green grass with my staik almost done 2 nice police officers aproached me and telling me to leave the area. I just having imigrated to Canada in 1957 pretended not to speak any english at all and just used hand signals that the steak was rady and I am hungry wanting to eat then leave. It took quite a while for the two nice police officers to give up and just let me eat then leave. It was very funny to watch both using hand singnals as well to tell me without worts to eat then leave while pointing and then motioning stiering a stearing wheel to leave. LOL
