Purpose of the holes in transmission tunnel
« on: August 03, 2021, 09:24:10 »
Do somebody knows the purpose of these two holes in transmission tunnel from passenger side in 280SL 1970?

They are for access to linkages and other things.  They should have cover plates.

Assuming you are talking about the two round holes, I don't have them and I suspect that these are not original.

I have never seen those holes before.
Suspect that they were drilled in when the previous owner wanted to access the linkage points for the kickdown, while test-driving.
Nope, Mercedes never had those holes there.  Only the two larger ones further up.  Those had metal plates to cover up.
Try using some rubber plugs to cover the smaller ones.

The two round ones were a bush fix for someone trying to get the linkage unstuck.  Figure out what size they are and search "Body plugs".
