Continuing to try to trace the lineage or ancestry of my 230SL any way I can- officially or unofficially, by the front door or the back door.  Looking for any ideas members might have.  I know the following:

  • It’s a Germany car
  • I know it was delivered to Koln M-B Branch
  • I know specific Date of Delivery: 17.05.1965
  • I know the specific purchase order number: x-xxx-xxxx
  • I know the Germany iicense plate of ~1982:  FN AK 351

Any ideas?

John:

The license plate "FN" is from "Friedrichshafen" which is a city at Lake Constance in the South of Germany at the Swiss border. The car must have been sold from the original owner in the Cologne area at one time. How do you know about the plate?

The German owner has been extremely accommodating with whatever info he had.  The license plate number is from a picture of the 230sl circa 1982 that he had sent me

Side story:  I tried to be somewhat authentic and created what I thought would be a correct license plate. FN-BAD 230
FN representing Friedrichsahen & Bodenseekreis (which I though was the area) BAD Baden-Wurttemberg (region) and unfortunately I just picked  230 as a random number.  I was at a show once when this little Gramma came up and said I love your car & plate  an "F-N Bad 230"  Oh well.
The German owner still lives in Salem5 near Lake Constance.
