A couple of Decal Locations
« on: September 16, 2021, 15:07:58 »
I have a few decals left that I didn't see mentioned in the video showing the locations for decals. Does anyone know where these go, or if they are for the 280SL?

The white “130” engine decal goes on the left side of the valve cover near the rear and below the Mercedes star. I am not aware of the red decals. Did you purchase them in a kit?

I found them on the Authentic Classics website under the decals for the 280SL. They have info for related to the AC.

RB,

I did considerable research recently, to install all of my decals, on Pagoda World, You Tube Video by Will Samples, Mercedes Benz Star magazine, and this site. I posted some questions on this site to clarify the "130" valve cover decal placement. The only decal that I found for the AC was a silver one that wrapped around the dryer but did not come across the ones you have posted. Not saying they didn't exist but I did not come across them in my research and until now did not even know they were sold. I would call George at Authentic Classics and ask him. He may be willing to share how he determined they existed and where they should go.

Please share what you find out and Good Luck!

I just wanted to point out that there are quite many decalls in the sets or sold separately claiming to be for W113, but were never seen nor detected by owners of original cars or those who really researched the topic (not saying the AC is one of them).

This is happening as the vendors want to sell their decals and 99% of decals buyers are not aware of subtleties of their existence and location, trust the sellers know something about them, buy them and stick them.

as for the valve cover decal there were several threads on them - Euro vs. US as well as about locaitons.

I watched the YouTube video. I didn’t see the second valve cover decal show in that video. Looking at the rear left side of my valve cover, there is not a smooth section with enough height for the decal, unless you come forward to just above the Fuel Injection Pump. Then it has to wrap a bit over the top.

There are photos of remains of these decals on the valve cover placed here by Members who took the pictures of their cars. I am pretty convinced these stickers were there, in the vicinity of cylinder 5.

Also: I would not expect that these stickers were always stuck in exactly the same place, evenly and in the same manner. I think it was relatively, well, not random, but just placed by hand by someone who was a bit in a hurry...

I had printed out pages of the member decals from the Technical section that I used to install most of my decals, plus the YouTube video, but I hadn’t seen this second valve cover decal in either of those. It just came up here in this chat, so I tried to stick it on as best I could.

I looked at the pictures I have on the computer.

On one of them you see location on the US car - remains of the white one (clearances) you had on your picture, next to the US regulations sticker - in front of the engine.
On the other one - when we started discussing certain type of the clearances sticker, a Member shared a different location. You can tell where it is as you see Mercedes star on top of the valve cover. It was my supposition that it may reflect the Euro placement - but I do not know that.

If I understand, it looks like you have the 2 engine decals together on the side of the valve cover toward the front left side?

At least that is what I think I am seeing in your photos.

Yes, for the US cars you had the tuning decal and the regulatory decal, saying the engine was allowed to be used in the US. The second one was not there on Euro cars, certainly.

This is my understanding, hope somewhat correct.

The second picture with the worn out valve cover sticker is from my car. Original factory sticker, German spec car. The sticker in the first picture, front of valve cover may be U.S. cars only. It is not on my valve cover.

Mike yes, the Euro one is from you when we were discussing the Euro sticker, you kindly indicated location.

The other one is Motoring Investments.

I saw a lot of pictures of the US cars without tune up sticker on the left side. Quite common was the regulatory only in the front.
