Engine cylinder sleeve
« on: September 17, 2021, 20:56:33 »
1965 230sl.....engine 127 981 10 005407. I need a definitive answer. Is it possible to sleeve a cylinder on the described engine, it has been bored 30 previously. 1 cylinder is bad (rust), is a long story about how it happened, OK X wife's son in law, wet rags in-cylinder when the engine was in storage.

It can be sleeved.  The 230 had thicker cylinder walls than either the 250 or 280.  I have heard of a 280 being sleeved in all 6 holes but I shudder to think what the stability over time was.

I would consider having it honed close to the limit before I sleeved it.

There's no problem with sleeving these engines as long as you choose the right engineers to do it.

Thanks for the info. I should have said that the described engine has pistons 127-030-86-17, they are the largest repair sizes available 83.0 mm.

I did sleeve successfully ( driven 3000 miles since) a 280:engine so it should be no problem to sleeve a 230 Block
