Hi all,
Is there a difference in M127 engines for different type of gearboxes?
Curious,

Further explanation:
Some engines have engine numbers like
127.981.10
and others
127.981.12
One is automatic and the other manual
A friend mentioned it could be related to the flywheel/crank shaft balance in a manual which is not in an automatic.
Your thought are much appreciated
Best,
Bart

You are correct, auto versus manual.
You can read up on that in our tech manual.
Different flywheels that need to be balanced together with the crank.

Dirk,
Good morning.
I do not know where to look in the tech manual.
Can you point me in the right direction?
Best,
Bart

Hi Bart,
I was talking about:
https://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/VIN
0-manual
2-auto
Hope that helps.

Thanks.
But where can I find the facts about the balancing of the flywheel?

Oh,
My understanding is that only the M127 engines were balanced together with the fly-wheels. I am sure it was discussed here before. We also have some experts (JA17, Benz Dr....) that may weigh in here with more detail.

The M127 engine is a "counter balanced engine". Each component is unbalanced, assembled and balanced as a assembly. Separate components must be kept with the original assembly or matched to parts they replace. In addition I think that the crankshaft on the automatic cars is completely different from the ones on the standard transmission cars.

The drive shafts for manual and automatics have different part numbers.
