Pulleys required to uninstall aircon 280SL

Does anyone know where I can source the two pulleys to uninstall the air con on a 1968 280 SL. I have pulleys and belts that go in all directions, I would like to simplify the installation. I need one fan pulley aligned with the first position of the crankshaft pulley and one crankshaft pulley with two pulley slots first position 9.5 mm belt and last position 12mm belt for power steering. I believe these pulleys are NLA from Mercedes?

Why don’t you leave the pulleys in place and just take the AC out if you don’t like it?
Is your fan pulley a double one?

Thanks for taking an interest. there is the solution of doing it like the diagram, but that still leaves the horrific metal bracket a spare idler pulley and the alternator in its high position and powered from the water pump ? And two 12.5 mm belts that are non standard length and there without reason. If I am going to do it I would like it to be as original as possible.

The water pump pulley is a single groove pulley that mounts on the short water pump directly, then a spacer then the fan.  That will get you back far enough to get the crank pulley you have and the alternator pulley into the same plane.  You may already have the short water pump with the spacer under the pulley.  If not you will need the short pump and a spacer as well.  You should be able to just disregard the center groove or sheave in the Crankshaft pulley and the Power steering belt goes back as before.  Your water pump pulley is quite valuable to anyone installing AC on their car.  They are quite hard to find.  The pictures are of an early M130 like your's.

Thanks, I think I understand, apart from the fact that the first two grooves on the crankshaft (ie. nearest the engine) are for a 12.5 mm belt the two water pump grooves nearest the engine are the same 12.5 mm the alternator pulley is 9.5 mm ? I have even wondered about having an alternator pulley machined to take 12.5 but not sure if there is enough material!

Not sure if it helps but my alternator pulley is 9.5mm. On the crank, the pulley is part of the damper. The power steering is a 12.5 mm belt / pulley. The pulley (crank) is either a single or a double (AC). It shouldn’t really matter, if you don’t use AC , you can just leave that blank.

The three groove pulleys are an expensive upgrade for someone who wants to install AC.  You should be able to trade and put cash in your pocket.

Single alternator pulleys are readily available. I'm thinking the alternator pulley on the crankshaft is part of the vibration dampner also and it must be changed.

Hi   When you are that far into the ac removal dont forget your idler adjuster pully I did the same and then the bearing seized up so  had to go back in and start over  the bearing was only a few bucks parts and labor and your good for many more miles.
