Steering wheel refurb

Hi guys.

  I need my steering wheel refurbished. Does anyone know the best place to send it.  Or do any of you have a new Oem for sale

It’s off my 66 230 sl. It’s in black. Showing age and some cracking.

Alex, thanks for the tip. I spoke to Bob . He sounds like a pro and he is close by in NJ.
I plan to drop my steering wheel off to him after Xmas.
Now I need to find out how to removed the wheel with damage.

If I recall…
Pry the horn pad off (gently but it just clips in)
19mm socket, on an extender
Disconnect horn (think it’s on spade clips)


Mark the center position - Center or similar - before you pull the wheel. Thinking aloud, I wonder if some dotology could be used… dab of paint on splines on wheel and column after the nut is off but before removing the wheel…

If the nut holding the steering wheel is too tight to just unscrew it, you may need a helper to hold the wheel while you are using force on the socket. I have never had a nerve to use the steering lock as a lock for unscrewing this nut - you can probably do it, but I just preferred to have a helper as well.

I would replace the spring washer. Can be bought at MB or probably most of the hardware stores.

An impact wrench works well for loosening the nut. You don’t have to yank on the wheel.

x2 on the impact wrench. Amazing what a good one can do to undo a nut that can seem impossible to undo with the 'normal' approach, especially when you can't immobilize a nut effectively.

I did not have one at that time... I have one now, but I do not need to unscrew the steering wheel... Life.
