High Beam blue light on dashboard not working
« on: December 01, 2021, 12:30:56 »
All,

Mr Peterssen has helped me tremendously with a larger electrical problem I had. Almost all is solved thanks to his wise advice.

But one thing I can not solve (and I looked around on the forum)

My blue light on the dashboard is not working when I pull on the lever on the steering collum to flash the high beam.

Where to look? Is is the lever maybe which is causing the problem, or ...?

Hope you can help,

Bart

Hi Bart

Do the Hi beams actually illuminate when you pull the Flasher switch ?

Here is how it is probably wired.

You can see they the hi beam blue light is powered from fuse 9. but the flasher switch provides power via Fuse 10.There is a linl between Fuses 9 & 10.
This can cause some strange events if the connections & fuse contacts are not good.

It is worth checking all connections are good and the fuse contacts clean.

Keep safe

Paul

Many thanks.

So the link between no.9 and no.10 is needed?

Yes
You cannot see the links, they are internal to the fusebox.

Do the headlights hi beam light up when you pull the Flasher ?

Dear Bart

Look at the diagrams shown below.

As Paul told you there is a bridge between fuse ports 9&10 and then between 11&12. That bridge is internal to the fuse box. It exist on the feed side of the fuses, you can check it’s existence with a multimeter doing a continuity check.

Then….. let’s look at the diagrams.  First the diagram for the multi function switch at the steering column, which is responsible of the high bean horn on cars.

Before that one remark.  If your car was sold on the American market the high beam horn is nullified, so that option will not work unless you modify the harness.

It’s no so hard……

Remove harness, internal side, leave all in the drivers floor.  Remove all the insulation on the main harness branch that goes to the main fuse box.

There….. you will find a hidden cable white/violet stripe.  That cable should be connected on fuse no.10 output.

And BINGO you will have now your high beam horn working….

That is most probably what is wrong in your car….

Write back and report results.

Best regards
Leo

You may start with lpeterssen indicated in the body of his post: is your car the US car? If it is, you may want to focus on the advise that comes next in lpeterssen post.

Bart

First thing to do is check if you actually have one WHITE/VIOLET cable connected on fuse No.10 output.  That lead comes from the steering multi switch where you activate the high beam horn.

If the answer is no…. Then…. You do all explained regarding removing harness internal part, which implies to remove the main fuse box from place and the do the mod suggested

Enjoy your experiment

And Do the Hi Beam headlights illuminate when you operate the flasher ?

If they do then check the wire from fuse 9 to the instrument multi pin connector.

Is the LED you used bidirectional ?

All,

Brief update.

Led is working so so ... ;(

If I give the middle dash a "gentle push" it turns of and on ...

So need to open it and check the contacts of the LED.

Only then I can double check your ideas.
