113 Event Today
« on: May 15, 2005, 19:48:57 »
Today, Michael Egan hosted a nice event for the 113 community.  About a dozen Pagodas ignored threatening weather to attend.

Those present include (but not limited to):

Michael Egan
Ray Schlicht
George Desiderio
Gernold Nisius
Harrold McCracken
Bill Gallagher
Walter Klatt
Ken Gear
Don Poole
Harvey Cherner
Deborah Hirtes
Norbert Lamp
Andy Paza
Mike Hughes
Rick Yepes
Tom Sargeant

There were others present that I did not get a chance to meet.  Good food and fellowship.  Our own George Des made a presentation on what is involved in rebuilding a fuel pump.  Gernold spoke on several interesting aspects to my restoration.  Finally, we saw Ray's restoration in process-a beautiful California Coupe and heard Andy Paza explain elements of the paint and metal process involved in the restoration.  Did not take a lot of pictures so perhaps others present today can post some as well.

Best,

Tom

The poster looks great.  It was worth the wait and it was also a good chance to put a face with many of the names out here.  More importantly, the cars look great.  It appears to be very well done and professional.

I'll second that!  Good quality paper and color printing with enough of a border around the picture grouping that it will frame well.  Good Job, Cees!

Thanks for the comments on the poster - one is hanging in my kitchen. The artwork was done by a professional graphical designer. I will post a photo soon, so we can all see what it looks like.

Hats off to Michael and the others for a very enjoyable afternoon. Lots of good conversation, food and Pagodas. Enjoyed describing the fuel pump rebuilds, but really only got to scratch the surface on this. Have been intending on putting together a detailed tip sheet on how to go about rebuilding both types of pumps including where to source o-rings, brushes, bearings and how to salvage the mess that so often happens when all those slotted cheese head screws won't budge or worse yet torque off. I know Hands-Aus has mentioned doing the same thing but I suspect he has some of the same time issues I have. Maybe we will collaborate on this and get something out soon. In the meantime anyone needing help in this area can give me a holler.

Hey George Des (guru of fuel pump rebuilds),

I wrote a paper of the procedures I used when I rebuilt, under your guidance, my old style fuel pump.
In it is listed the O-Ring sizes and bearing sizes. They were readily/cheaply available here in Australia.
Our measurement system here is generally metric but imperial sizes are still used in a lot of engineering manufacture.

As I didn't encounter any problems removing the pump end screws, I couldn't include the procedure of removing broken screws.

Lets collaborate and produce something our club members can access and/or modify.

Maybe it could include a explanation of the way the fluid seal works.
You have already typed that info into the PC and if you need a copy, I could email back to you your original emails.

Sorry to steal a moment of the topic but I expect George and I will continue this by email.

There are some familiar names there and some not so familiar.  I hope we get some new members from these kinds of events.  It sounds like it was a great time!
