Advice about fip
« on: December 05, 2021, 09:09:55 »
Hi gents

I’m proposed to buy a fip for a 230sl
The complete ref is PEK6KL 70A120 R18 Z
0408 026 013

As i have investigated it matches with my 230SL except the Z at the end of the first ref.

- is it ok for my car ?
- how much would you pay, provided the pump is not stuck it turns by hand, but stored on a shelf for the last 15 years…

I kind of thought that a 230SL uses an R11 pump.

Yep more than everything else 👍👍👍

That means that i shall pass my way ?
What do you think ?

Its only for 250 SL, and has be overhauled… in another hand trying to find a fip for a 250 SL could be challenging… but who could be looking for that ? 😬😬

If you search on here you'll find lots written about this, including specialists who can refurbish your own injection pump

There are also specialists on the vendor list who supply pumps or can service yours

I have one that I bought in Germany a few years back. It’s a completely rebuild pump with rebuild sheet. PM me if interested. (Not cheap)

I think i need to clearify

I’M OFFERED TO BUY A FIP BY CHANCE
I’M NOT SEARCHING A FIP FOR SALE

Apparently it belongs to a 250sl

As I have a 230sl that has it own fip fully refurbished, I finally wonder if it’s an interesting deal to make, and if yes, at what price, provided it has to be overhauled (I know where to send it to refurbish it)

Thanks for your advices 👍👍👍

I would say a core pump should be worth maybe $200-300. I say that because when I was buying up sitting M130 engines around Holland and Germany, I would typically get a complete engine (with alternator, started, FI pump, exhaust and intake manifolds, power steering pump - the lot) for maybe EUR 500 a piece.
More importantly, these pumps are quite robust. If you just make sure all is free (the control rod, the warm running thermostat/tower etc) then chances are good this pump will work just fine.
I have maybe 12 of these FI pumps sitting just like the one you are looking at. One day I will examine, clean, check etc them all, then search for a proper service place that can bench test each one, so I know what I have. Or, I just may test each one right on my own car for real-life testing.

Cees, I think you oversimplifying the pump rebuilding and calibration process a little bit.  ;D But I agree that they are robust and once set properly, not typically a problem area.

Ok guys

Provided it’s for a 250 SL I won’t consider buying this pump which may stay on my shelf for a long time.
