Timing behavior question
« on: January 12, 2022, 19:56:45 »
Im looking into resolving a mild but annoying 2.5-3k stutter on my 67 230sl

Im new to the car, and the PO said he thought the 051 distributor had some slop in it, so I may install a new 123 distributor. Beforehand I wanted to get a baseline on how the car is currently set up.  here is what I found today which seems strange

Im getting a consistent 1000 rpm high idle, at which the light shows a spark at "0" (TDC)
At 3000 rpms I'm getting around 35-37 degrees which I think is normal.

Why would I be at TDC at 1000 rpms?  There is no pinging or out of place noises, the car starts fine and seems to be happy idling there although I know its out of spec.

PS I have done the recommended linkage tour and all is set up to spec.

Ideas?
Thanks,
Joe
