W111/112 Dashboard Illumination
« on: February 05, 2022, 18:32:21 »
1963 W111 220SE Cabrio: At the moment only my speedo, tach and the combo instrument are lit at night.  I seem to remember that pre-restoration, the temperature controls, the blower knob and the clock were lit, or am I imagining it?

Clock should be lit as well, but that is all. The auto trans indicator would be lit if you have that.

Thanks, Wallace.  My car has the manual floor-mounted transmission.  I found some photos of a clock on the internet.  Is the bulb holder a black plastic item in one of the corners? What is the easiest way to remove the clock?  From the glove compartment, or from the bottom?

On your car, it is best to remove the glove box, to remove the clock. The removal of the bulb will be obvious at that point.

Dear Hans

There is a connector that goes to the side of the heater temperature sliders that someone forgot to reconnect.  It has a gray/blue cable and a brown ground on it.  Just plug and you will haven illumination on that accessory.

Regarding the clock illumination check that you have a bulb fitted in and that you have power on the terminal that has again a grey/blue cable once you turn one click clockwise the main light switch.

Best regards
