Intake manifold
« on: February 10, 2022, 20:57:20 »
Hello, I have removed my intake manifold and found lots of crud inside. It seems that the air orifices that introduce air from the idle air controller to each of the 6 intake tubes are pugged or severely restricted. There seems to be a plug over each intake tube filled with lead, aluminum or other softer metal that seems to be access to these orifices.

How do I go about cleaning the manifold and these orifices?

I've never had any sort of luck trying to remove those soft plugs so I would leave them be. Carb cleaner or similar would be your better choice. If you know someone who has a parts cleaner they do a nice job.

Thanks much Doctor.
Here in Panamá a parts cleaner is a guy out back with a brush.
I have it soaking in diesel, and the stuff is coming loose slowly.
My concern is poking something into the orifice that may make it too big.

Take it to an automotive machine shop. Most of those places will have a machine that's kind of like a large dish washer. This machine uses hot water or steam to clean off grease and it will remove all of that crud without damaging anything.

Better still find somewhere locally that has an unltrasonic bath big enough. That will yield perfect results.

A steam cleaner will be unlikely to yield great a result but it's worth a shot.
