Amazing Little Car
« on: March 02, 2022, 23:12:00 »
We are having our holiday house renovated and I decided to bring my 230SL home to Edinburgh to keep it safe from the building site. My car is well maintained and has just passed its French controle technique with no faults or advisories. Even so … I started it up, put on the hardtop for the first time in 11 years and drove it 1,600 kms to Edinburgh. My car has the Getrag 5 speed gearbox and I drove at a gentle 100 kmh which is just a touch over 3,000 rpm. My car is 56 years and two months old. I think that is amazing.

Here she is in St Paul de Vence before the grand depart

Andrew, it sure is an amazing little car. Garry and I so enjoyed driving her in France during the French Pagoda Event in 2018. We will never forget your kindness to let me have your car during this event. My offer to you still stands schools you ever visit our part of the world to drive one of my 2 babes .... stay safe all the best from Garry Marks and myself.

I second Rolf Dieter’s comments as well, your car ran like clockwork. And on reliability, just the fact that I could get in my car after shipping to Long Beach CA port and then drive 16,000km without a hitch then ship it back home is testimony to their reliability.

Dieter and Garry - my friend who you met when you picked up the car still asks after the two sprightly gentlemen who had flown thousands of kilometres in order to drive an old Mercedes around the South of France for a few days. I trust that you are both doing well.
