Vacuum retard regulator Bosch 051
« on: April 05, 2022, 15:00:47 »
Hi all,

I am running a check on all ancillary components and found this regulator on the distributor to be stuck.  Basically it wont move and probably didnt move for the last 20 years or so. And i also noticed the the vacuum pipe had liquid in it!

Anyone has ever dismantled the unit ?? (not the distributor as seen in the technical manual)  but the actual vacuum regulator in its interior components.

Hopefully i can spare myself purchasing a new one!

The vacuum cell is a sealed unit and can not be taken apart. You will need a used one - I doubt new ones are available. You would be loosing 10 degrees of advance without it.

May want to consider going to 123.

I don't think the advance is available new either. Could probably find used a unit but.....The 123 is a good solution as Pawel suggested and has a vacuum port.

x3 on the 123.

I did manage to source a NOS vacuum cell for the very similar Bosch distributor in my '71 Volkswagen last year, so they are still around here and there. The old one was frozen as well. The person I bought it from has several more - but there are subtle differences so the spec/specific type is important. Once installed, the car ran much better (duh!).

You will undoubtedly notice a marked improvement once you have the additional advance in your Pagoda.
