Trunk lid badge position for 280 SL
« on: May 01, 2022, 10:40:40 »
I have recently converted a 280SL from Auto to 6 speed manual,

I told the body shop to remove the “Automatic” badge but this has left the 280SL badge sitting far to high.

I would like to get this altered & would be grateful for information on the correct position.

Many thanks,
David

Many thanks for taking the time to reply.
I had seen the topic you referred me to but this is for a 230, Automatic. I have used Google translate to try to understand the information in German but think it is too technical.

Seems the information is actually the reverse of what I am looking for.

Regards,
David

The link is indeed for the Automatic ID. The description in German is also for the mounting of both the badges, so don't worry about translating them

Here are the mount hole dimensions on the trunk/boot lid from my  “280sl” badge.  These are the factory holes as far as I can tell for a car without the “automatic” badge.

From left edge to center of first hole = 92.4mm
From bottom edge to center of hole = 30.8mm

See photos

280sl - 1971 - Auto - LSD

Thanks for your reply, I am only mouthing one badge “280 SL” & think that approximately that needs to be in the position of where the “Automatic” badge would go when both badges are fitted not sure that info is of any relevance.

As you can see someone has now posted the the info I was looking for.

Thanks for your time,

Regards,
David
