Pagoda Group Badge
« on: May 19, 2022, 11:42:25 »
I would love to have the Pagoda Group Badge on my 230SL!
The problem is that I can’t find where to buy it on this site!
I’m a member of the Swedish Mercedes Group and bought the Swedish Group badge directly from the Swedish Mercedes Club.
Please let me know how to proceed to by the Pagoda Group Badge.

Lars,

The grill badge was a one-time operation. We solicited the purchase from the membership and then had the badges made. We do not have any for sale, although Mike Salemi may have an extra. He keeps up on the posts, so he may be putting a response.

Or a member on the site may have a spare.

Good Luck.

Unfortunately we don't have any left. All the extras/leftovers were used at the PagodaFest 2019 in San Diego, and none remain.

I'd imagine we will do another run in the next year or two, if we can get demand > 50 units.

Yes, metal. Very high quality. I think all who bought one were pleased. At the time price was like $35 I think, but a new run would be higher because of higher prices and lower volume.

Michael! You have any plans to do some new editions of this badge? You wrote 50 pcs will be the lowest size of the re-edition?

We do not have any immediate plans on a re-issue. However, perhaps we'll look at this again in spring 2023.
We'd have to have a minimum of 50 units to make it worthwhile. It would be more costly, because everything has gone up.The unit cost would be higher since last time we had a large order of nearly 500 units. So a smaller order would mean higher costs. Very important, international shipping has skyrocketed.

Not only has international shipping skyrocketed, but the EU has instituted crazy importation taxes and fees, which are expected to be paid by the recipient, cash on the barrelhead, or the post office will not hand the package over to me.

For this future project, which does not have a determined date, it will follow the same instructions as all other projects we have done. At the appropriate time, the entire membership will be notified via email to the email address you have on file. We will probably have an announcement, a follow up, and a reminder. In addition to these direct emails, we will also have a number of postings on the forum here about it, usually with much discussion. We generally keep each project open for what we consider a generous amount of time.

Full instructions to take advantage of whatever project comes, will be provided. You will be required to follow those instructions. Once the instructions are followed you all in all likelihood receive an invoice and you pay the invoice.

Trying to stem any problems in the future and trying to explain this once again, if you don’t come to the forums frequently, and you don’t check your email, or you have an incorrect email address it’s entirely likely you will completely miss the opportunity to take advantage of whatever we offer.

Based on the fact that we sold well over 500 of the badges originally in 2018, and we did two compilation books of pagoda world magazine in 2021, sending out over 1000 packages, this has not been too much of an issue for most people.

But it has for some…

Not only has international shipping skyrocketed, but the EU has instituted crazy importation taxes and fees, which are expected to be paid by the recipient, cash on the barrelhead, or the post office will not hand the package over to me.

These issues have always existed. The international shipping has gone up as all of the international postal services have, through the IPU, re-aligned the agreements on shipping. Nothing to be done except ship smartly as we do.

As for taxes, more often than not those internationally (outside the USA) have to pay VAT on just about everything (waiting for them to figure out how to add VAT to the air you breathe) and this is applied on the value. Nothing to be done about that either.

It was suggested we use an EU manufacturer for the next group of badges. Well, our badges are not actually made in the USA, it's just an American company. I think they are made in China but I don't know for certain. I do know that the vendor provides high quality products at reasonable prices and their service is excellent. I think anyone who has received either the new badge for the 15 years, or the older club badge can agree. If we were to do that, than more than 50% of the membership would have to pay import taxes probably, since 50% plus of our membership is in the USA.  When we did the book project and the badge project we carefully planned it to provide the same pricing for everyone. We cannot pay your tax however.

Members: yes, we hear you. Unfortunately we had such a very high acceptance rate with the badges in 2018 that if we were to run the program again today, we'd not be able to get enough interest to warrant productions. So many full members (the vast majority of which are still with us as full members) took advantage that we don't have enough new members yet to justify.

We did investigate making them through a Swedish company to avoid international shipping but the price just wasn't there.

As the one who ran the project, I'd say that when we do next PW Book project for PW Magazine volumes 21-30, probably in late 2023 next year, we may run another badge project if we have enough takers. We need at least 50-100 to make it worthwhile.

As for the first badge project, and the first and second book project, you need to pay attention to the notes that come out, and the posting here that will be made at the time. You'd be surprised at how many don't come to the forums often, and either don't pay attention to the emails or haven't provided a proper email address that they check regularly. I know this since after the ordering period has closed for all three projects, we still were getting orders from people catching up on something published months earlier. We don't do anything without plenty of notice.

Hi Greg,

I love to purchase a hat with our logo, please add me to the list if you started one, I'm just north of you in London ON (South western Ontario Canada). I have a blue 280 SL the hat will match fine :) and I have just found out from our President (see his post above) that we do have a store front were you can purchase a hat with our proprietary logo at your choice of coloured cap. see the link above from Mike

Dieter

PS. I recommend you start your own post with a picture (if you have one) and an estimated price with shipping extra (unless your Post services will give you a price breakdown). Dieter

Greg & Rolf-Dieter -

This brings up something that I have been pondering mentioning:  For PUB 2017 in Greenville, VA there was a vendor who did caps, hoodies, shirts, etc., all with the Pagoda Group logo.  Since that vendor already has the badge design on file and the quality of the apparel received by PUB 2017 attendees was top-notch, might that vendor be able to make up Pagoda Group logo items for group members on an ongoing basis?  This limits the need for the Pagoda Group to buy, stock and ship out regalia items itself.

Several marque organizations to which I belong have similar arrangements with various vendors for Club regalia items.  For instance, my local M.G.C.C. Centre has an arrangement with Lands End for club logo apparel.

Dear Benz280,

Before you go off and spend money on sportswear:

1.  We already have a store that will produce anything you want with our proprietary log embroidered on it.  The Website is:

http://www.companycasuals.com/pagoda/start.jsp

I have attached a checkout screenshot which shows you the costs for embroidery and shipping.  The website truly has an infinite selection of clothing and accessories to choose from in any color you want.

2.  Our logo is one of our own design and The Pagoda SL Group, Inc. owns it.  It cannot be copied to make your own from. Our group paid to have it designed and distributed and it remains the intellectual property of the Corporation. I'm very sorry.  Feel free to use regular fonts and lettering of another design.

Dieter, check out the website.

Regards,

Mike Mizesko
President
Pagoda SL Group, Inc.
