Got mine yesterday. GREAT surprise to me. The club has come a long way, MBCA does the same thing with their membership. This is a touch of class for our SL Group. Again thanks, I will display the badge proudly.

… MBCA does the same thing with their membership.

Say what? The MBCA does no such thing. I was a member for over 20 years, never received any kind of recognition. Nothing. If they were to do something they certainly wouldn’t give grill badges, of that you can be certain. These badges believe it or not, actually cost something to produce.

Why yes it is!

It is the same vendor as the original grill badge project from a few years ago. We went through quite a few design changes before we came up with what you see before you. We wanted something distinct, something unique, and something special, and something of substance that our members would proudly place on their car, not tuck away somewhere and be lost.

They were all mailed out at approximately the same time and they will take varying amounts of time to reach our qualifying membership around the world.

I have a 25 and 30 year pin from MBCA.  Pittsburgh section gives them out.  Your section will be the one to give them to you.

OK, the SECTION within the MBCA, is NOT the MBCA. As a national club, the MBCA does nothing. The well funded local sections (there are just a few) may choose to do something. But since the MBCA cut funding to all the sections, there are not a lot of sections with a lot of money within the MBCA. the number of sections within the MBCA has dropped, a number of those are in hiatus due to lack of any leadership.

I was a section leader for many years, I do not recall any pins being made available to local sections. Certainly none were made available for our section to purchase and give out.

You want recognition? You'll get it right here at sl113.org

It was a great surprise and a great looking badge.
When is the next one, 20 or 25 years.

So, the board comes up with a 15 year recognition gift(s) and now those who have more than 15 years want something for 18 or 20? Seriously? Let no good deed go unpunished...

Making something of substance like these pins and badges takes time, effort and money; we've been at it for about six months. You also cannot do it for just a few; the unit cost would skyrocket*. We didn't and don't have enough 20 year members yet to justify such a thing. So we decided on 15. There were plenty of 15 year members, and a good amount coming up over the next several years if these members continue to renew.

So, we made enough badges to last us for these years; each January 1, the roster will be examined, a new list of 15 year members created, and they will receive the same badges that you are seeing now.

Maybe at some time, this board or another board will choose a 20 or 25 year award. Right now, we're focused on the 15.

If anybody wants to help plan direction, your services on the board would be welcome.

---

*Note: this is why we were able to offer the original badges for $35 down from the target of $50.

Michael:
My comment about 20 or 25 was only a suggestion.
But work involved  ( that you made clear) would suggest that 20 is too soon.
Maybe 25 should be considered. But not mandatory.
Keep up the good work.
