Replace Heater Blower Motor and Core
« on: June 23, 2022, 17:24:22 »
Dear all,
I have just sourced a replacement heater/blower motor and a re-conditioned heater core.
Before I start work to replace them both any advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks so much
Best

Steve,
someone here said that the car is build around the heater, which is probably true.
You will have to remove a lot of components in and around the dash to get to it.

Hi,
everything you need to know you can find here:
https://www.w113.eu/geschlossen/Reparaturen/Pagode%20Bedienscheiben%20Luefter%20Luefterrad%20ausbauen.html.

I did it a few weeks ago, a real imposition.
I also replaced the sintered bearings of the blower motor with ball bearings, which is a significant improvement.

It is also worth removing the heat exchanger and cleaning it inside and out.

Good idea to replace the bushings with bearings. Do you remember the size?

Hi,
It's all in the document above, 8x16x6 mm, e.g. SKF 638/8-2Z. But you need new bearing shells too which are self-made by a Pagodentreff member.

Perhaps that Pagodentreff member could sell entire kits.  Seems like one or two people per year are replacing heater cores.  If it is a significant improvement for the blower motor, then maybe there's some demand?  They could stock 10 kits and be set for a while.

The only thing I see that is missing is
A- The three cables from the heater flaps , how are they put in the firewall? From the flaps towards the fire wall or from the firewall
towards the heater flaps.?
B- is the vents to the right and left( that are under the dashboard ) are they put in first or after the blower motor is put in place.
I took mine apart 18 years ago and I really do not remember how they came apart.
So far these are the only questions I have about the blower motor , I am sur there will be more as I put it back together.
