Mercedes Benz original promo film for w113
« on: July 06, 2022, 13:03:17 »
Hi everyone
Some time ago I found on the ‘tinternet’ footage, I presume advertising film, for the 230sL when it was launched

It had a gentleman driving a white ? 230SL road, over a weird obstacle course and also showed the soft top being raised and put down. I think it was black and white but may just have been a poor colour film

I thought I had saved it but for the life of me I can’t find it anywhere and not even on a Google search

Does this ring any bells with anyone? If so, could you send the link?

Many thanks
Katie

That’s it, thank you so much!!!

Perhaps we could put this on the film/video section in the Technical Manual?

Some interesting details to be observed:
In the opening shots of the car on the turntable there's a badge on the side of the front wing (fender)
No engine data decals on the engine (I'm of the belief that only very late cars (if any) had those )
Location of labels on the expansion tank.
Light colour paint or material in the soft top stowage area.
Door grabs and window winders are both black.

Anything else?

This was DB’s introductory film for the w113 model. These films were made well in advance of the actual release.  I would, therefore, imagine that prototype cars were used for the filming and hence the departures that you’ve summarized.  I do believe however that on their release, the door pulls, window crank pads and ashtray lid were only available in black.  At some point in the run of the type 230 cars, color coordinated parts were adopted.  If I’m incorrect on this, please let me know.

This is true. Mine is fairly early (871) and has black pulls (both sides), cranks, ashtray.
