Euro Headlamp Casting
« on: August 03, 2022, 02:26:54 »
Hello All,

I’ve damaged one of my Euro headlamps (don’t ask how).

I’ve managed to get a new lens and the plug, fog light holder and wiring.

Upon attempting to fit up the new lens, my rear housing appears to be bent and I have a gap between the lens and the seal.

Does anyone have a Euro style headlamp in any condition as all I need is the casting that everything fits to?

Don’t care about reflectors, wiring, lens, indicator lens etc, all I need is the alloy part everything fits to.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks Doug.

I've had my Euro lights out to replace reflectors.  I don't understand what you mean by a casting??

Hi All,

As Dave suggestion yes it is the frame that everything attaches to.

I mentioned that in my post, I call it a casting as it is cast alloy.

Hope this clears that up?

Doug.

Are you sure the casting is bent, i would have thought it was difficult to bend cast aluminium, isn't it more likely to crack or break before it bends?  Could it be something to do with the seal, it's worth checking before trying to find a replacement

That listing is for LHD only and at 595 Euro, I’d be paying for a lot of bits that are useless to me.

In regards to your question Bob, I’m having a hard time getting bottom of the lens to meet up with the casting and seal. I’ve been gently tapping the casting with a hammer and two pieces of timber and it’s slowly bending in the right direction. I know you said they normally crack, I would agree, but this one is defying the laws of physics.

Anyway, I’ll keep persevering and see what happens.

If anyone does happen to have an old Euro light they are not willing to restore, I’d happily take it off your hands for an agreed figure?

Thanks to everyone’s responses so far, much appreciated.

Doug

Hello Duncan, are you still looking for one of these?, there's one listed on Ebay at the moment, it's in the US so postage cost may be an issue

Let me know if you're interested and i'll post the link

Hi Bob,

Happy for you to post it on here, but the reality is that living in Australia makes buying anything overseas at the moment ridiculously expensive for freight.

I’ve pretty much put my restoration on hold just simply due to the shipping charges.

To give you an example, 20 small items from George at Authentic and the shipping cost is over $400 USD, which is close to $600AUD, simply unjustifiable.

Thanks Doug
