Ignition Control Box

Having an intermittent issue where engine will stall at around 185 degrees.
Wont restart until engine cools a bit. Some research is pointing me to the the electronic ignition box ( 71 280sl ) .
Has anyone experienced any issues at this level ?

Take a look at the technical manual - Electrical system. Click on that and then look for Ignition System - click that and scroll down to "transistorignition" and read through how that works and what to look for.  This should give you some idea about how this is set up.

You might also want to take a look at the Emission Control System - click on that and it takes you to a description and info. It can also impact running.

Also try the search function . I found the thread above on the first page of search hits. I used "transistor ignition -petronix" without the quote marks, but not the "-" in front of petronix. In a search if you use that minus sign, the search will exclude that term. It gave me three pages of hits.

have gone through linkage and WRD and cant help but feel its an electrical ignition issue given that its as if its getting no spark.
Came across a NOS ignition Box, coil and ballast lets see how that goes.

Yes, Jonny's reply was all about helping with ignition.  Did you follow his recommendations?

Did troubleshooting and diagnostics lead you to trying a different ignition box, or are you "throwing parts at it"?  Hoping you're going about it smart to save yourself time, money, frustration.

Be sure to check the wiring for grounding items. Some of the small connections can be problematic. 

Also check to see if a separate wire was added to the electronic control box to allow for easier ability to hook up a dwell meter. If there is a wire and there is a small bare spot grounding out, the car will not start - ask me how I know that one.. ::) ::)
