Power steering box install trick
« on: October 27, 2022, 14:31:55 »
The power steering box in my 230sl had the usual fluid leak from the bottom cover, so I removed it to replace the seal.  Removal is easy with gravity assisting.  But almost by accident, I found a sneaky old man trick to re-install.  The car happened to be positioned under the hardtop hoist.  I tied a strap around the box and hooked it to the hoist’s cable and an assistant cranked it up with me under the car.  With a very light touch I guided the box into position and got all three bolts started.

An alternative would be to put a pipe or a 2x2 across the fenders and attach a come-along to hoist the box.
Cheers,
