I have a beige MB Tex tool bag for sale, I would be happy to trade it with a green tex or vinyl original bag as my car has a green top and interior

I wanted a green bag as my car was delivered with a green interior, its a 1970 280SL
I'm posting pics of the two toolkits I have, I need a [pair of the adjustable pliers and the plastic fuse pullers to complete the kit, as you can see, I have an original touch up paint, wiper blade in the original packaging from Bosch and a tire pressure gauge I bought for my Porsche 356 which I think is more suited to the SL

I've been experimenting with spray vinyl paint using a Duplicolor rattle can. I was expecting a very poor result was pleasantly surprised. I bought a scrap (they call it mill end) piece of vinyl to experiment on. There are at least two brands of spray (Sems and Duplicolor - and there may be more) and you might find a color that's close. If not, there's also Color Plus (Colorplus.com). I don't think they have a spray but they do have a brush on and can match any color sample you send them. Obviously, try first on something else. Lee

Someone should correct me here, but I don't think the original tool bag in your car was "color-coordinated" to the top or interior color of the car. My original tool bag is a greenish color and the car had a brown top and parchment interior.

I believe you are correct Mike. My understanding was that tool bags were made from scraps of MBTex or convertible top fabric and whatever was available got used with no effort to match the car in any way.

If it matched, it was simply the luck of the draw and definitely not intentional. My car has been in my family since new. It was delivered with a perforated grey MBTex toolkit bag. The car is red with black fabric top and beige interior. So the toolkit is a mismatch to the car.

We have had our 1966 230SL since new and the tool bag has no resemblance to the car's colors. Car is blue with blue interior. Tool bag is green on the inside and black on the outside.

I have another toolbag from some later Mercedes. Dark blue cloth material. Definitely not a W113 bag. Free if anyone wants it. Just send a message.

Having owned a few very original 113's, I would have to agree, the tool bags rarely matched the interior or top material.

Bag in good shape, but the tools are largely incorrect. No star on the Heyco 300, Hazet tool is anodized, wheel centering tool is for a 107, not sure i'd go for this one.

You are correct. I have probably five complete kits. All with original bags except for one which I had Stitchman make for me. It’s made of new material so you can tell it’s not original when alongside a vintage piece. But it is remarkably accurate and as close to an original as any reproduction can possibly be. He even uses the same type/brand snaps!

I have always thought the original bag for the tool kit was made from the canvas from the soft top material. So are these bags supposed to look like MB Tex?

Actually, they were made from whatever was left and available, at random - be it soft top or upholstery material. And you were not getting a blue one if your car had blue upholstery or soft top - you were getting what was at hand.
