There is a trunk mounted Pagoda luggage rack for sale,
possibly original? Does anyone have a similar model?

Don't know if it is original or not but personally speaking I would be very reluctant to drill holes in the boot lid of my car to mount it...

One of the German sites that sells the wind deflectors does a luggage rack. If that's your thing

Blowed if I can remember the name of the site though

This is the same seller who takes W114 toolkits and "markets" them as W113 tool kits. Personally, I hate supporting sellers like this.

Wow Doug, you have the same thought as I have.
The W113SL's never had an option where it would mar the originality of the design,  this is an aftermarket item that probably came from a British company as many of the MG's had this type of rack on the trunk.

Please consider that the trunk lid is aluminum (Aluminium for you Europeans). If you must take everything with you, consider a truck before you install that luggage rack.

Yes, Doug,

I agree.
Bought a few items from him when I was still in the States. Some items are very good, others are not so much.
It always depends ... He got about 5000 feedbacks with a 97 % rating.
Sellers like him (and most others too) want to sell and not to be primarily our "best" friends per se.

Lots of sellers claim some "non-knowledge" to advertise their non-original stuff as a part for the Pagoda or any other admired car.

I would recommend not to go after "every" stuff that seems to be rare. A good portion of healthy skepticism always helps in life.

Just my 2 cents ...

There's a 300 SL Roadster out there that a lot of people have seen out there. It's a white late-model car with what is thought to be a factory chrome lugage rack over the rear deck lid. This piece is much better engineered than the one in question on ebay (which I believe is a typical Anco rack from the 70s). The 300 SL rack had intricate hold-down clamps that screwed on to each corner of the lid with rubber feet. No holes at all. Factory or not, it was nicely engineered.

Also, what made it look better on the W 198 than a W 113 was the slope of the trunk. It's almost like the luggage rack you'd see on a 356 Porsche. The 113 is just too flat back there. Besides, the Pagoda's trunk is pretty spacious, so who needs it?
