Exterior Paint Color Code - Pagoda World Publication

On publication of Pagoda World issue 21 (from September 2017), what exterior paint color code is the light blue (?) 280SL on the back cover? Thank you.

Does it say who's car it is next to the picture, if so you may be able to find the colour if the car is on the registry in the Tech Manual, just a longshot

Coincidently, if you have a copy of this issue another member was after a scanned copy of the article about horns

On page 4 of that issue the inside and outside back cover photos are credited to James Lester.  Perhaps he can provide the color code.  (It is not in the description in the car registry.)

Garry, that post is from 2009--nearly 14 years ago!

We have very few PW back issues left...certainly a list from 2009 is totally useless. Most of those back issues were eventually sent out to new members. The only stash we have is the editor has a few.

We DO still have PW book, Volume 1 and Volume II. Not many, but I have them here and have been sending them out periodically as people decide to order them.

Volume 1 is issues 1-10; Volume II is issues 11-20. We are planning on a Volume III Issues 21-30 probably in 2024.

Sourcing paint and getting a sample today for 906 grey blue. Were our vehicles painted the body colour inside the truck (as well as under/behind the dash, etc.) or were these areas painted black, etc.?

Hello, have a look on here again, it tells you which parts of the car were painted body colour and which parts have a different colour, the inside of the boot (trunk) lid and rocker covers etc

Some areas in the engine bay are also painted a different colour from the body, best have a read of this link, and search other posts.  There's also different opinions on the correct finish for the underneath of the car, make sure you read up on that.  Hopefully other members who are far more knowledgeable than me will chime in

It's a small Group we have here, so sometimes if you miss it, you miss it.  I wasn't active on the forums when the grill badge was done, so I don't get one.  Pagoda World back issues were compiled into two volumes of books for people who missed the magazines.  If you missed the books, then maybe you missed it.  The Group can't stock everything produced indefinitely.  It doesn't hurt to ask for something specific, but generally I wouldn't expect any extras from past projects to be available.

What i was referring to was the back issues of PW that were kept by the Group for sale on an individual basis, not the two publications that the Board produced last year. I passed last year on transfer of membership admin about 300 back issues to be slowly used for new members packages but there were lots more, obviously not every issue, held by others for sale.


We had a list of them last year. I could not find it and used Waqas’ list as an example but it appears someone pulled or blocked that link.

Oh, I  wasn't aware.  I've been absent for quite a while until a few months ago.

My I suggest a sticky thread, maybe under 'Full Member Board' or maybe under 'General Discussion', where available supplemental materials are tracked, with a contact for members to use to purchase said items.  Single PW issues, PW compilation books, coffee table book, patches, grill badges, window decals, etc...  I'm sure the Board has discussed this in the past, so I apologize if I'm dredging up old, settled issues.

Bob, you are right. We painted a sample of the 906 grey blue and it was too dark and too grey. I have a book that says the blue grey color was used on the 1968 280 and that the code was 208. Does this sound correct?

There are several posts on here saying that the current mixed version of DB906 is darker than the original

The original was made by Glasurit (906 G), but their current version now seems to be darker, so i'm not sure what the answer is if you want to match the original shade of the colour

As far as i know there is no Mercedes paint code 208, so i'm not sure what you read.  Perhaps buy a few different pots or cans of touch up paint in DB906 from different suppliers, and see if any come up the shade you like and then see if you can order paint to match?  If not send a picture of the colour to a supplier and see if they can match it, there's a good picture on this link, which says it's 906
