Well speak of the devil.

There will be an article about this tour from two members of the group in the next issue of Pagoda World magazines.  They did the Provence tour. Their experience was quite positive.

that would be AWESOME, but man, that can't be inexpensive to do.

Would need some kind of anti-theft device (or pull a coil wire off) as these cars are pretty easy to steal.

BTW, what is the "correct" way to mount the front license plate?

Sorry if off-topic.  I have mine in the lower position.

Greg (Benz280) Thanks for posting,

Great Pictures and video! I plan to make some nice screen savers and desk top photos.

Jonny (Jonny B)

Looking forward to the story !!

Robert (teahead)

Yes Robert it can be very expensive. On the other hand it might not be if you share a Pagoda with another Member, Garry and I were offered a Pagoda for the 2018 France Pagoda event near Nice, France. It was wonderful, we attended the Euro Pagoda Event then after the event we crossed the south of France to visit the Paul Bracq in Bordeaux, France). We organized that trip with 7 Pagodas after the Euro event.

As for your car may be a target for thieves, you can control that. Stay in a nice B&B or park in a near by underground garage. A nice anti theft trick is to carry a burned out fuse and replace it with the good fuse for the primary pump. No one will be able to start your car, she (your Pagoda), be dead as a door nail. :)

Garry (Garry)

Still thinking back of the great time we had Garry! Oh the memories.

Still off topic, but I say center mount:
From the factory the customs plates were center mounted using the pre punched slotted holes in the plate.

In Australia the plates have holes top and bottom so it can be up or down. There are no central holes on the various State plates.

Usually, in Germany there is a backing plate that attaches to the holes in the bumper at center and the license plate then mounts to that

The Star magazine had an article about this in the May/June 2022 issue. MBCA Carolinas is organizing a group trip for end
of May 2023.

"Back in the day", as they used to say...

The MBCA would have organized trips to Germany (they still do, but it's a bit different) so that members could, en masse, pick up their cars on European delivery.
The local section I was a member of in Michigan, used to have their OWN trips to Europe!

My guess is these days are long gone!

Has anyone on this forum actually done this tour listed below? It looks spectacular although first hand experience is always better than just the online marketing brochure.

Any feedback, ratings, advice for someone else who is considering it?

I am not familiar with the details of the upcoming Carolinas Section trip.  Perhaps someone else can speak to that.

MBCA still does Germany Trips in the spring and fall.  Lucy and I participated in one of the fall trips in 2016 and had a great time.  One of the possibilities was to add on a Viking River Cruise after the main event had concluded, with transportation to the dock included in the Germany trip cost.  That year it was a Danube cruise from Nürnberg to Budapest, for which 12 couples opted.

The itinerary varies from trip to trip, leading to many repeat participants, but usually includes an assembly plant tour, AMG facilities and a whole day at the Mercedes Benz Museum, as well as tours of places related to Gottfried Daimler and Karl Benz and of interest to car enthusiasts in general.  There are always a few people taking European Delivery of a new car in the days before or after the trip event.

One of the tricks I learned from the travel agency handling the Germany trip arrangements is that those opting for the Viking River Cruise could save a considerable amount of money on the airfare by booking it through Viking.  The cost of Viking included airfare was considerably less expensive than what the agency could get for Germany Trip  event participants not participating in the optional river cruise, and Viking allows one to customize the arrival and departure dates up to 30 days before and after its sailings.   The only caveat is that one had to arrive and depart from the same airports that serviced the optional cruise.  This meant that those booking through Viking would be responsible for getting themselves from Nürnberg to Stuttgart on their own.  Some arrived in Nürnberg on the day the Germany trip commenced and just took a train from Nürnberg to Stuttgart.  One couple arrived in Nürnberg, took the train to Stuttgart, took European Delivery of a new vehicle and visited relatives in France before the trip event began.  We arranged through Viking to arrive in Nürnberg a week or so before the Germany Trip, rented a car and spent a week sightseeing in and around Nurnberg and Rothenburg, then dropped off the rental car at the train station just a block or two from the Germany Trip hotel in Stuttgart.  At the conclusion of the Germany trip event the 12 couples were transported by bus from Stuttgart to Nürnberg.

only Carolinas and the booking is closed at this point I believe.   I would think that anyone in sl113.org could organize a similar trip if there was interest.
