I could get that info for you tomorrow. The rear section is always the same length and it's the front section that's different for standard or auto cars.
Great, thank you Dan. That would be fantastic if you can measure this tomorrow.😀
I have a spare rear section, which may not be from a w113. But before I send it for balancing along with the front section, I want to make sure, it has the correct length. I could also measure this on my own cars. But it is difficult to do without a lift, and they are both currently in storage for the winter.
I am going to install a 5-speed Getrag 265/6 in my manual 280SL, so the front section is special and cut down in length along with a special star to match and fit the space for the 265/6, as it is longer than the 4-speed. Wolfgang in Germany sold me this front section as part of the Getrag 265/6 installation kit, he is offering. So my plan is to mate that front section with the rear section, I have on the shelf and have them balanced together, so that all this is ready for installation with the rest of the installation kit in one operation. 😀
I think and can also see in the Tabellenbuch (see attached) that the rear section was shared across many of the Mercedes models of the mid-late 60’es, including the w110-w111-w112-w113. But there are a few different part numbers listed across those models for the rear section. Therefore a comparison measurement with the length of another 280SL rear section against the one I have on the shelf, before it goes for balancing, would be great. 😉
I can see from the part drawings that the rear section and the connection to the front section look different for the early 230SL. So it is important that we compare length with a rear section from a 280SL (or 250SL). 😉
Thanks - highly appreciate your help! 😀
