230SL lower steering shaft diameter?
« on: March 16, 2023, 22:59:38 »
Does anyone remember, or have recorded somewhere, the diameter of the 230SL lower steering shaft inside the column in the area of the pedals?
It should be near 19 mm diameter.

Hi Tom,

The diameter of my spare lower steering spindle, where it engages the steering coupling, measures approximately 17,8mm.  The non-serrated part of the lower steering spindle diameter measures approximately 18mm - maybe because this section is painted.

Regards, Klaus

Thank you, Klaus.  That is perfect.  I'm preparing to buy an electric power steering kit here in Quebec province.  The one I have chosen is EasyDrive, made in France, and sold by Fitzback Garage.  Its motor/gearset is made to adapt to a 19 mm shaft inside a column tube about 50mm dia (+ or -) like a Pagoda steering column.
Your information is much appreciated.
