Pillar seal replacement
« on: March 17, 2023, 12:20:54 »
Hello guys , I need to replace the pillar seal next to the windshield . I wanted to know how difficult is it and how to do it . Do you need to glue the seal or just put in place with a spatula ? Thank you

It's been years since I did this, but I am pretty sure I did not use glue and was able to securely fit new seals just pressing them in as you say. The main trick was to make sure I trimmed the new pieces to snugly fit the body/top.

You don’t need to put new clips to fit in place the seal ?

Maybe we're not talking about the same seals - the ones I was referring to are the 'uprights' on the window frame, that the door glass fits into. The seals slide into channels and although I suppose they could be glued in, mine have stayed put without glue for at least the past 18 years.

I mean this seal . I guess glue is not needed right ? And another question about the hard top from seal . Is the same procedure like for the soft top front seal ?

I am just replacing the seals in your pic as well. They are sliding in / out relatively easy.
I will add a few drops of trim- glue to keep them securely in place.

Did mine, very easy. Existing clips worked fine .
Rubber seal was a bit longer than needed, had to cut with a razorblade.

Help me out please. What do the clips look like? I might be missing them.

Dirk,
there are two types of clips. There is a photo in this post showing the 2 clips in the channel (they insert into the larger hole in the channel):

And then there are triangle corner clips at the bottom:
