« on: May 04, 2023, 10:11:20 »
Hi To All
New to the forum, and hoping someone can shed some light on my issue.

I have attached 2 X pics, relay and pigtail, the pigtail plugs into the closest relay does it plug into the second relay or the third relay?
brown wire is earth ,the black wire I do not know where it attaches ?.

Dear Bruce

I am almost sure that that small mini harness is related to the cold start relays mechanism.

I presume that your car is an 230SL or early 250SL which used 1x timed relay which has 3 prongs and a 1x standard 4 prong relay.

If you look at the wiring diagram published on this forum at the technical manual section, specifically the 230SL diagram.  There is a component labeled “20” which is the timed relay.  That component on the 230SL is responsible of activating all starting aids for one (1) second every time you crank your car no matter if engine is hot or cold.  The TTS may extend the help of this starting aids for a longer time period (up to 10 sec) if engine temp is below 35C.

This harness is to override the functionality of the timed relay.

I need you to make me a diagram of all the pins in that subharness to guide you in the proper pin repositioning at the terminal “20”

Best regards
L.Peterssen

Is this the factory "Hot Start" modification kit? I have one and looks similar.

FYI  it appears from your photo that the upper shock mount washer is on upside down.

707dieseldean,
Yea, I've always thought you should see the concave side of the washer.  Turns out, there were some shocks that came with rubber and washers that were smaller, and those were the other way around.  Depends on what parts you have, I guess.  See details of picture here.

bruceg47,
Good luck with your harness/relay thing.  I'll look on my 230SL and see if I have the same.
