If he's lucky, some roving bunch of morons will be cruising for catalytic converters and spot this, and say, "oh, my this is too easy" and cart the scrap away before he has to do anything with it. Sometimes the brains of thieves are not to be believed.
True story: when a 300MB disk drive was the size of a washing machine and used three phase 240VAC power, I had bought a computer system for resale in NYC that had a few of these. Even by then they were obsolete. So, we packed the moving truck with the essential items, and left said disk drives on the corner of 9th Avenue and 26th Street...and went to have lunch a few blocks away on 23rd at the Empire Diner. When we got back after lunch, the drives were gone. Boy did that save us a headache!
Went back into the building, cleaned up a little and our task was complete.
