JACK RATCHET
« on: August 04, 2023, 20:13:43 »
Here's a first:

Was taking a tire off on my '65 230 and the on/off ratchet bar snapped in half.  I guess after fifty-eight years it met it's life span.  Was quite a surprise and unfortunately the the jack was almost completely raised.  Was able to jury rig a tool  to finish my project, but went searching to see if a ratchet tool is sold anywhere?

Not successful at all.  Anyone have sources?

(I probably will need to drill out the hollow bar and remake the tool but would also like to find a replacement)

Both dirkbalter and Merc_Girl are looking for the same part.  They both have 230SL’s.  I’m wondering now if theirs snapped too?   Apart from the secondary market (eBay, Craigslist, wrecking yard), I’m not certain where you’d locate this part. The problem is that it’s part of a set.  (Occasionally Nelson at Vintage Euro parts has used parts for sale.  Buds Benz perhaps?)

There are always plenty of the newer style BILSTEIN jacks at EBay.

I only needed the ratchet as well but ended up buying the jack including the ratchet.
Paid $ 150 on ebay.
I wont use it for regular maintenance. Its for the trunk in case of emergency.

Interesting

I’m a little puzzled by the description of the other part as being a’holder for the spare wheel’.

Anyone have an idea if this is for a pagoda or maybe just another Mercedes’ of the same era? If for an early pagoda, where the hec does it sit?
See piccies

Thanks as always 🥰

It is a clamp holding spare tire.

Initially PN A 120 403 00 02

Used in: W105, W120, W121, W128, W180 - Ponton family in essence.

190SL on the picture.

Then, very similar clamp, PN A108 898 00 32

Went to: R107, W108, W109, W110, W111, W113 (here we are), W114, W115, W116 - pretty much everywhere...

It is difficult to find as it was replaced by PN A 110 403 00 02 for W110, W111 and W113 (here we are again).

It was used in Pagodas: Up to ident. no.: 042 007204 EXCEPT FOR: 006069 ALSO INSTALLED ON 007216, 007232. This is when vertical position of the spare tire became horizontal, I think.

Also found a picture with Pagoda trunk.

Thanks for the question and response as I too was confused about that part.  Not understanding German, I would have needed a little google translate to understand.  Thanks Merc Girl for the question.  Luckily I was able to drill out the broken bar and refit saving a lot of hassle and $.

Just to let you know, I managed to pick a replica ratchet jack handle from Niemöller
https://www.niemoeller.de/en/item/C%2058%20003

Mindful that folk have had different experiences on the quality of some of their items

Presume it will work albeit unlikely to be ‘used in anger’ at any point, as I have the RAC to change my wheels! 🤣

Not sure if this is of any help, but after snapping the ratchet bar I became a bit leery of it.  While I was able to rebuild it with a new bar, I decided to keep it only as part of the jack set in the trunk

I took an old socket ratchet handle and drilled out for a pin as showed on the attached picture.  Heavy duty and not concerned anymore
