My 280 SL in France
« on: September 09, 2023, 18:56:18 »
After a clean, took the car for a spin since the weather was so nice, around 7 PM.
Here next to a familiar sight in this area of France - a stack of firewood:

Clean pagoda, top down, a lovely evening, the French countryside: it’s a hard life but one must endure!

We're in the Haute Marne, not too far from Dijon in the north-east of France. Very rural, small villages (ours has less than 100 population). Many are second homes to Swiss, Belgian and Dutch. Cost of living is low, quality of life high.

When I was a young teen, I traveled to Europe for the first time, a trip made possible because my Aunt lived and worked in the Netherlands for Allied Forces Central Europe. Near the end of my trip in August, 1971, my godparents, and my aunt took me on a trip to Italy from the Netherlands. We took mainly A roads and avoided the motorways. Little did I know at the time but due to my godfather-uncle's interest our route was right through "Battle of the Bulge" country, through Luxembourg, Bastogne, Metz and Nancy (all towns I'm reading about in Patton's bio now.) Our overnight the first night was in Epinal, not too far east of Haute Marne. Stunningly beautiful country at that time, and it looks like the beauty hasn't been overtaken!
