Steering wheel indicator stalk
« on: September 14, 2023, 10:25:56 »
Perhaps like a few of our cars, our cars indictor stalk does not stay on - it needs to be held manually up or down PLUS there is no indication that it self-cancels - in short it is caput. (everthing else works though - headlight flasher, windscreen wipers and washer).

A search of the Tech Manual gives several fixes, one in particular is incredibly detailed but sadly well above my pay level as far as mechanical aptitude goes.

So........what are my options - live with it...my option but not my wifes (who loves to drive the car) or fix and or replace. At the back of my mind is the fact that in the not too distant future we will be selling her (car, not my wife!) and this non cancelling etc indicator may cause a FAIL on the compulsory pre-sale Safety Inspection.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Hello George, my indicators are exactly the same, they suddenly failed when i pressed the stalk in for the wipers, and they've never corrected themselves.  I thought about trying to repair them myself, but at the moment i just hold the stalk in place

There's a member/Vendor on here who can either refurbish yours or supply a service exchange, if you message Sead, he'll be able to help.  New switches are available, but i've read reports that the quality isn't great (but the price is!)

IIRC, the stalks are different on the 230s to the later cars, and they are sided (LHD/RHD) which creates another level of challenge. If I am correct, a refurb may be your best option

I vaguely recall chat about 3D printing some of the internal parts
