Removing water pump
« on: September 20, 2023, 14:48:11 »
Hi everybody!
My water pump needs replacing. Do I need to remove the hood or anything else first?
Any help on how to proceed would be welcome.
Thank you

Philippe,

Hi.  You can start with a search of the forums and maybe find your answer.  See attached images as an example.  Of course, fellow members will also provide answers and assistance here.

Philippe,

I did this job recently.   I did remove the hood as access is not easy with the hood in place.    See this thread as I listed the steps I took.   One thing to note, I bought new bolts, not realizing that the pump came with new studs - read the whole, short, thread and it will be clearer.

You do not need to remove the hood.  Drop the rad out the bottom of the car (if no lift then raise the front end on some stands) and then remove the grill and grill chrome.  This will give you plenty of access to remove the water pump.

Hello, there wasn't anything written in the technical manual about water pumps.  I've just added some descriptions about how to replace a pump, taken from these posts, but does anyone know when the change from the short pump to the long pump happened, i can't see anything in Pagoda Notes changes

Thanks

Just found this post, a short pump on a 1970 car, did all W113's originally have short pumps, or has this pump been replaced at some time?

Thank you so much!
I have a leak at the inferior edge of the pump.
I'm afraid I am responsible for this mess, as I pushed laterally on the pulley with a lever to get the small hose of the thermostat in place  :-\
Do you think I should replace the alloy housing of the pump as well? (n°50 on the part list)
