Defroster Duct Left ?
« on: October 01, 2023, 21:50:39 »
Ok so I am hitting a wall again!  I cannot seem to figure out how to get this piece out.  I broke this piece the first day I started on this car yanking on it.  And now still it is haunting me.  I have gotten everything else out of the dash.  Do I need to remove the entire Windshield wiper Arm to get this piece out?  Thanks!

I was just looking at a parts site and realized this is called a Defroster Duct, I have been searching Air Distribution Box... so I will search the forum again.

It has two bolts on its base holding it to the back part of the air distributor which in turn is bolted to the blower fan.

You cannot remove those unless you remove the blower fan and associated components.

Once the blower fan is out of the way, these slide out from the bottom.

Hmm.  I am not sure how I can slide it out?  I have the blower and everything else out of the dash.  It is just this final Defroster that I cannot get out.  My only thought is to remove the entire Wiper System and then I could slide it to the right and out.  If you look at the picture it is basically resting on brackets below so there is no way for me to slide them down?

And I can't move it right because of the Wiper Arm?

Ihave done that job some years ago and remember the difficulty to dismantle the left wiper arm, and i didn't  :o but as said above i succeded with the blower out but it's not easy, the good thing is that the new duct can be shape  modified by hand .
Below the left wiper arm which i have not taken off , i didn't want putting too much effort... to avoid another issue ...!

Hmm ok I will take a look today with Fresh Eyes.  I just dont see how it can move down with that bracket there and can't go right or left because of the wiper...  I guess final resort will be just break it to get it out?

Then the wiper assembly needs to be disconnected to install the new vent piece?

I will start searching but I see a plate on the inside of the dash with a couple bolts.  I am hoping that is all that needs to be removed to pull the wipers out, and disconnect the other side near the motor which looks easy.

Not to go of an a whole new topic but.... So I have lots of things removed right now especially the blower and soon the wiper motor... I am sure there is a way to test these things outside of the car.  Do I just need to get a power converter to create a Car Battery current and attach it to these components?  Clearly I am a Novice but loving this.  My wife came out to the room with all the parts that I have taken apart fixed and cleaned and realized her dream of selling this car for an African Safari with our kids is over.  The kids will get the car someday. :) See Africa in videos...

Don’t forget to take photos at each step of your work….🤔 and if possible from different orientations, it can help when you’ll put all the parts together 👍

Ok took out the wipers and finally got it all out.   I guess I needed to do the wipers anyway.  I am sure they have not been run in over 40 years.
