230SL boot or trunk lid insignia standards
« on: October 30, 2023, 00:13:44 »
My USA 230SL has an automatic transmission. The insignia on the boot lid is 230SL. Because it has an automatic transmission, should it also have the “Automatic” insignia?

Alex,

My car, also a 230SL automatic, has the following option on its data card:

254  No "Automatic" on rear deck

Typically only the euro cars had the automatic emblem.

My understanding is, that early W113s may have had it, while later model US cars did not. MB did not want to "water down" the "sports car image" by showing it was an AT.
