fuel pump fuse blowing

Hello have a 1969 280 sl doing a total restoration
Just recently l have had the fuel pump fuse #4 Blow when turn ignition switch on . any ideas where to start looking , ' engine had run before , with a new fuel pump. Any help thanks

Remove the wire on the pump and replace the fuse. See if it blows again. If it does it’s probably not the fuel pump but a short somewhere.

"New" fuel pump probably actually means rebuilt. I know the first time I rebuilt mine I wasn't particularly careful about polishing the impeller and double checking that it spun freely with the cover on. It was noisy and eventually stopped and blew the fuse when it did. I pulled the bottom cover and polished up the impeller and the mating surfaces really well to get it going smoothly again.

The first thing I would look at are the wires that come down through the trunk.
When I removed my pump, I found the wire insulation under the plastic wire sleeve in poor condition. It is possible that moving the wires during the pump work has caused a short.
