Automatic transmission noise
« on: December 29, 2023, 00:23:25 »
Seasons greetings to all.
Going through the posts on transmission noise I see some have had experience with torque converter/flex plate issues. My transmission exhibits a noise in neutral and park only, sort of a chattering from the bell housing, that develops when the engine is warm at normal low idle. New engine and transmission mounts, checked trans fluid, nothing metallic evident. Cannot notice any noise in drive, or any shifting issues. Checked the torque converter bolts, they were tight and there were no obvious cracks around the flex plate holes, however, it's certainly possible there is a flex plate issue that may not be visible until the transmission is removed. When parked on an incline, the chattering noise will move down the driveshaft to the carrier bearing area.

Questions for the forum:
1) Any other possible things to check before I pull the transmission?
2) Other than loose bolts, can something like worn starter pinions/flywheel teeth cause flex plate stress/damage?

Regards, Ben
